Prior to the present position she had served as the Secretary-State Ministry of Mahaweli, Additional Secretary-Ministry of Irrigation, Land Commisioner General-Department of Land, Deputy Director General-Mahaweli Authority, Additional Secretay-Ministry of Education etc., during her 27 years carrier as an officer of Sri Lanka Administrative Service. Before join in the SLAS she had served 5 years period as a School Teacher.
